As many of you know, I moved to Utah last October.
One of the things I’ve loved most is how patriotic people are here. They love this country. They love family traditions. And they are proud of where they live.
So when our town of Herriman hosted its annual PRCA Rodeo, I decided it was time for this California girl to experience her very first rodeo.
My first rodeo… and I had the best tour guides.
There were three nights of competition.
- Bareback riding.
- Steer wrestling.
- Team roping.
- Barrel racing.
- Saddle bronc riding.
- And finally…
- Bull riding.
I’ll admit, I didn’t know much about the sport before I went.
According to this announcer this is the best Saddle rider on planet earth.
The crowd was incredible. The riders were fearless. It was exciting to watch.
Watching it live was amazing.
The gate would fly open.
The crowd would cheer.
The riders gave it everything they had.
But by Saturday night, one thing became crystal clear.
Nobody stayed on the bull.
One after another…
The gate opened.
A few seconds later…
They were in the dirt.
I couldn’t help but think,
“Being an entrepreneur feels a lot like this.”
From the outside, owning a business looks exciting.
Freedom.
Flexibility.
Being your own boss.
But once the gate opens…
Everything starts moving.
Customers.
Payroll.
Taxes.
Marketing.
Hiring.
Unexpected expenses.
Cash flow.
It usually isn’t one big mistake that throws an entrepreneur off.
It’s trying to stay balanced while everything around you is moving.
The best riders don’t just hang on. They learn how to ride.
One thing I noticed about the best riders was this:
They weren’t reacting to every movement.
They had trained for it.
They had a system.
They knew how to stay balanced when everything underneath them was unpredictable.
That’s why I spend so much time talking about financial systems.
When your cash flow is organized…
When you know where your money is going…
When you have a plan instead of simply reacting…
You stop feeling like you’re hanging on for dear life.
You stop guessing.
You stop hoping.
You start making decisions with confidence.
Because confidence doesn’t come from having more revenue.
It comes from understanding your numbers.
The goal isn’t just to build a successful business. It’s to build one that gives you the freedom to enjoy moments like these.
The goal isn’t to survive another wild ride.
The goal is to build a business that gives you the freedom you started it for.
